Selina und Steven Klingebiel, die Gründer von Spitzstock mit Familie in Frankreich

Die Geschichte hinter Spitzstock: Handwerk, Freiheit und ein Roadtrip durch Frankreich

Some brands are designed at a drawing board. Spitzstock began on a country road in France – even though we didn't know it ourselves at the time.

Two very different childhoods

Steven grew up on his family's ranch. Space, stillness, a closeness to nature – for him, this wasn't a lifestyle you had to choose, it was simply everyday life. As a young boy, he learned the leather and saddlery craft of cowboys: how to cut leather, how to tool it, how to stitch it, how to create something by hand that lasts for years.

Selina grew up in a completely different world – and yet found her way to a related passion early on. During her training as a tailor and designer at a design school, she discovered her love for French fashion, Art Déco, and timeless design. Even her first own collections centered around exactly this theme: France, its stillness, its light, its appreciation for craftsmanship.

Two life stories that, at first glance, had little in common. Until 2016.

The road trip that changed everything

In 2016, Selina and Steven spent their first vacation together – a road trip across France. Small markets, old workshops, country roads, stone houses, the scent of fresh bread and lavender. Both fell hopelessly in love with the country, its style, its designs.

And right there, between a roadside café and an old saddlery somewhere in the countryside, the first thoughts of Spitzstock were born. Not as a finished plan, but as a feeling: what if we turned what drives us both into something shared?

Many more thoughts followed – until Spitzstock itself was finally founded in 2017.

A journey begins

2016 the trip, 2017 the founding. A year in between might sound short, but it stands for something that still matters to us today: we didn't rush into starting Spitzstock. The idea was allowed to mature before it became a brand.

That's essentially the same attitude Spitzstock stands for today: the most beautiful things take time. That's true for a piece of leather just as much as for a business idea.

Ten years later

Even today, many years after founding, both themes – Western heritage and French country life – still shape our everyday lives. We still spend a lot of time at the family ranch, drawing inspiration from the wild west just as much as from French country style, and both passions continue to flow into every piece made in our atelier.

What this means for you as a customer

When you wear a Spitzstock piece, you're not wearing an invented marketing story. You're wearing the result of two real, lived life stories – brought together by a shared journey and the belief that things made with care and time are, in the end, the ones that truly last.

Not loud. Not short-lived. Timeless.
